Baptist Hospital has designed a series of programs just for you. Our experienced team of certified childbirth educators will help you prepare for your baby's arrival with informative classes on labor and delivery, breastfeeding, newborn care and everything in between. Whether you're first-time parents seeking information on birth options or third-time parents in need of a refresher course, we're here to help. To further enhance the birth and parenting experience, your coach/support partner is encouraged to attend all classes. That's what Healthy Beginnings is all about.
Registration for Classes at Baptist Hospital
lass registration is quick and easy and can be done in one of two ways:
1) Call 786-596-8748, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m-1 p.m., to speak to our childbirth class registrar. Please leave a message during other hours.
2) You may also register for childbirth classes online or e-mail us at BaptistChildbirth@BaptistHealth.net. Payment of fee will hold your space. Credit card payments can be made over the phone.
Early sign up highly encouraged. We recommend that you register as early as possible during your pregnancy. Class registrations close two weeks prior to class start date. Once you are registered, you will receive a confirmation letter with detailed information on your class. Payment of the class fee confirms your spot. Those who have not pre-paid may be removed from the roster unless other arrangements have been made. This allows us to accommodate those who may be on a waiting list. Payments can be made over the phone with a credit card. Please be sure to call and make payment one week prior to class start date. Policy prohibits us from taking payments at the door.
If paying by check, make checks payable to: Baptist Hospital of Miami. At the bottom of the check, please put the date(s) and type(s) of class(es) you will be attending.

Note: Refunds will be made (less a $15 processing fee) for cancellations received at least five days prior to the class start date. No refund will be issued if you do not call to cancel. All classes are held at Baptist Hospital of Miami.
We reserve the right to cancel classes at anytime. In the event of a cancellation, you will be notified one week prior to the class start date.

When to take classes: 7-8 months of pregnancy.
Our childbirth classes are designed to offer parents-to-be well rounded curriculum. The most important way to approach the birth of your baby is with confidence and relaxation. You achieve this by knowing what to expect, developing the skills to move through labor and feeling prepared through education. We encourage you to be an active participant in the birth process. Through a blend of lecture, open discussion and video presentations, you will learn about: the third trimester of pregnancy, pre-term labor, the stages of labor, vaginal and cesarean births, comfort measures, position changes, breathing and pushing, birth options and interventions.
E-Learning Childbirth Class, $80
Now you can take a childbirth class in the comfort of your own home! Baptist Hospital offers an exciting online childbirth education program. It is perfect for couples with time or scheduling conflicts, in need of a refresher course or for moms who are on bed rest. Our interactive tutorial will walk you through the three stages of labor and provide you with birth and pain management options as well as comfort measures to optimize the birthing experience. As you go through the course there are numerous video segments and illustrations that will aid in your understanding of what to expect before, during and after labor. Learn how to soothe your baby with infant massage. Nurturing touch can relax & calm fussy babies, help them sleep better and encourages bonding between parent and child.

Baptist Hospital Lactation Services Department Awarded The IBCLC Care Award
The International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) and the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLCE) have awarded the Baptist Hospital Lactation Services Department the IBCLC Care Award. This award is given to facilities that hire International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), has a dedicated lactation program and an initiative that protects, promotes and supports breastfeeding and provides breastfeeding training to staff.
When to take the class: 5-7 months of pregnancy
Congratulations on choosing to breastfeed your baby! This class will provide you with information that will create a strong foundation for your breastfeeding success. Topics include: the importance of breastfeeding, anatomy of the breast, positioning and latch-on, importance of skin-to-skin and trouble-shooting common problems. You will learn all this from a certified Lactation Consultant. Partners are strongly encouraged to attend.

Breastfeeding for Working Moms, 1 session, 2 hours, $50.
When to take the class: 4-6 weeks prior to your expected date of going back to work.Dates: Please call for 2014 dates.
Congratulations on your decision to continue breastfeeding! This class will provide practical tips on how to continue feeding your baby and make an easy transition once you are ready to go back to work. Discussions will focus on what pump to use, when to pump, storing and handling of your milk and much more. This class is taught by a certified lactation consultant.

Baby Basics: Understanding Your Newborn
1 session, 3 hours; $50; When to take the class: 5-7 months of pregnancy
Why is my baby crying? What can I do to help? Caring for a newborn is an exciting yet anxious time. This class will help you become familiar with characteristics of normal newborn behavior and appearance, feeding and sleeping cues, as well as learning your baby's unique language and needs. We will also discuss postpartum recovery and coping skills for mothers.

Nursing Mothers Support Group
1 session, 1.5 hours, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesdays, 10:00a-11:30m. Womens Health Resource Center, 8950 North Kendall Drive, Suite 105. Please note: Support Group will not be held on: April 16, June 16, August 20, October 22, November 19.
Good information and a strong support system are important for nursing moms. This group gives breastfeeding moms the opportunity to share experiences and concerns and receive guidance and support from each other. Pregnant moms and babies of all ages are invited to attend. Baby's First Year (Free)
This support group is for new mothers of children from birth to age one. The group gives moms an opportunity to share their concerns and information with other parents. Babies are welcome. For more information on Baby's First Year support group, call 786-662-8106.
