About Agueda Hernandez, MD
Agueda Hernandez, M.D., is a family medicine physician with Baptist Health Primary Care, a part of Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians in multiple specialties closely aligned with Baptist Health South Florida. She is Program Director of the West Kendall Baptist Hospital/Florida International University Family Medicine Residency program and Medical Director of the Baptist Health Primary Care Family Medicine Center at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. She promotes the program's vision of providing leading practices in education and compassionate care in a high-tech and high-touch environment.
Before joining Baptist Health Medical Group in 2012, Dr. Hernandez operated a solo private practice that served as a clinical preceptorship site for Florida International University's Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine students. Prior to that, she was a core faculty member in the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine's department of family medicine, and served as assistant director of pre-doctoral education. While at UM, she was the primary author of a Residency Training in Primary Care Grant and obtained funding from the DHHS Health Resources and Service Administration to provide public health advocacy and cultural competence training. As co-director of the project, she developed and implemented a curriculum in cultural competence for residents and adapted it for use with undergraduate medical students.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Hernandez was a resident at the innovative Lawrence Family Practice Residency in Massachusetts, where she served as chief resident and subsequently joined the faculty of the residency program. During her time as a faculty member, she was associate residency director and associate clinical director for Latino Health 2010, a CDC-funded REACH Project aimed at developing community-based interventions for addressing health disparities. Dr. Hernandez received her medical degree from Brown in 1996.
