Alexander van der Ven, M.D., is a fellowship-trained, Board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Baptist Health Orthopedic Care and a member of Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians in multiple specialties closely aligned with Baptist Health South Florida. He specializes in total joint replacement, revision replacement and reconstruction of the hip and knee. Dr. van der Ven completed the Otto E. Aufranc Fellowship in Orthopedic Adult Reconstruction at New England Baptist Hospital, and served as a clinical instructor in orthopedic surgery at Tufts University. A Massachusetts native, Dr. van der Ven earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his medical degree and MBA in healthcare management from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed several research projects at the Massachusetts General Hospital Bioengineering Laboratory in knee reconstruction, and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. Dr. van der Ven completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital. During residency, he also served as a team physician for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools sport programs. His clinical interests include degenerative, congenital and inflammatory disorders of the hip and knee, with a focus on less invasive techniques, arthroplasty longevity and early rehabilitation. Dr. van der Ven has published articles in several peer-reviewed medical journals and has lectured nationally. He is currently a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Florida International University's Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.

With 3 physicians In my family I can tell when a physician Is goood, bd or ugly (also as a Mechanical Engineer I can tell when an orthopedic surgeon knows the real basics of his area of expertise. Thus: Will not do my surgery with any other Physician but Dr. Alexander Van der ven!!!!

It is so wonderful and I feel so lucky to have found a doctor who clearly cares deeply about his patients and his work with them. He is not just a skilled surgeon, he is a deeply caring doctor and that is so fortunate for all his patients and hopefully the hospital values him greatly. Though I suspect he doesn't need it, he is innately a very skillful artist in his fielfd and doing his work with excellence is obviously what is important to him. I feel very grateful to have placed my trust in him. With gratitude always.

Surgeon Van Der Ven outstanding professional. Competent, Thorough, engaged Recovery from Surgery exceeded our expectation. 2 days on Walker and walking 4 plus miles daily prior to 6 week post op. Was able to manage pain without any narcotics since the pain post surgery was less than before surgery

I feel like the doctor could have been more sympathetic. He only talked about my need to lose weight before I could have any kind of surgery. I felt like he thought I was wasting his time. I was very surprised because I was told he was the best surgeon in town. He didn't even schedule a follow-up with me and I was given the feeling that he didn't think I could lose enough weight to qualify for this surgery. He also went only by BMI which I have been told is not a good measure due to different body types. He did send me up for physical therapy which I know will help.
