Natalia Hernandez Bustos, MD

Natalia Hernandez, M.D., is a fellowship-trained urologist specializing in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery with Baptist Health Herbert Wertheim Cancer Institute. She treats a wide range of pelvic floor and urinary conditions, including urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, pelvic organ prolapse and female sexual dysfunction.

Dr. Hernandez also performs complex pelvic reconstructive procedures, including urethral diverticulum and vesicovaginal fistula repair. Her clinical and research interests include robotic surgery, neurogenic bladder conditions, urinary incontinence and advanced treatments for overactive bladder.

Dr. Hernandez earned her medical degree at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. She completed a general surgery internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, followed by a urology residency and a female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital. She also earned certificates in clinical research and applied biostatistics from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hernandez is certified by the American Board of Urology.

An experienced researcher and educator, Dr. Hernandez has published articles and book chapters on female urology, urinary disorders and reconstructive surgery. She has presented her work at national and international medical conferences and has served as a reviewer for several professional journals. Her prior academic appointments include core faculty for a urology residency program and voluntary clinical assistant professor.

Dr. Hernandez believes excellent care begins with understanding each patient’s individual story, concerns and goals. As a Latina physician, she focuses on building strong, trusting relationships and creating an environment where patients feel heard, respected and empowered to participate in decisions about their care.

Dr. Hernandez is fluent in English and Spanish. When she is not treating patients, she enjoys traveling, learning new languages, exploring art and photography and attending classical music and opera performances. She also enjoys playing padel and taking long walks with her dog while discovering pet-friendly parks, restaurants and communities.
