Michael Peter Klitenick, MD

Michael Klitenick, M.D., is a general surgeon with Baptist Health Medical Group, providing comprehensive surgical care to patients across South Florida. With more than four decades of experience, he is known for his thoughtful, patient-centered approach and longstanding commitment to the communities he serves.

His clinical interests include breast conditions, general surgery procedures involving the abdomen and soft tissues, skin and soft tissue conditions and trauma-related care. He also has extensive experience treating a wide range of conditions commonly seen in South Florida and the Florida Keys.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at the University of Texas in Houston, training at both Hermann Hospital and M.D. Anderson Hospital, followed by a general surgery residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Veterans Affairs Hospital. He went on to serve as chief surgical resident, further refining his surgical expertise.

Throughout his career, Dr. Klitenick has held numerous leadership roles, including chief of surgery and chief of staff at hospitals in the Florida Keys. He practiced for 40 years as a board-certified surgeon and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He remains active in several professional organizations and has contributed to the field through publications and community involvement.

Dr. Klitenick believes that every patient deserves individualized care. He takes a patient-first approach and understands that no two cases are the same. By listening closely and building trust, he works with patients and their families to develop care plans that are both effective and compassionate.

He has lived in the Florida Keys for more than 45 years and values the strong connections he has built within the community. Outside of work, he enjoys sailing, fishing and reading, as well as spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
