Biography
Mark Kelly, M.D., is a board-certified urological oncologist at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. He specializes in multidisciplinary prostate cancer care. Dr. Kelly has devoted his career to managing prostate cancer in a highly individualized manner, empowering his patients with shared decision making. He uses advanced imaging, biomarkers and therapeutic interventions as well as active surveillance for people who do not need more aggressive treatment.Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute in 2023, Dr. Kelly served as chief of urology at Providence Saint John’s Health Center and assistant professor of urological oncology at Saint John’s Cancer Institute (formerly John Wayne Cancer Institute), both located in Santa Monica, CA.Dr. Kelly was one of the first urologists in Los Angeles to develop an active surveillance program. He was also an early adopter of focal therapy for men diagnosed with discrete, potentially lethal prostate cancer. Focal therapy uses advanced imaging and minimally invasive, ablative surgical techniques to remove cancer while leaving the rest of the organ intact.Dr. Kelly began his study of cellular and molecular biology at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He conducted postgraduate research at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, focusing on oncological epidemiology. After receiving his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Kelly completed his residency in urology at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital. In 2020, Dr. Kelly published his findings on the success of focal cryoablation for carefully chosen patients in the Journal of Urology.Upholding the mission of Miami Cancer Institute and Baptist Health, Dr. Kelly enjoys partnering with his patients, looking at the whole person, their lifestyle and health practices and helping them understand that change is possible.
