Maria E. Ramirez is a board-certified physician assistant at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. She has 10 years of experience in this cancer care role, completing patient assessments, developing treatment plans and performing inpatient consultations in partnership with an attending physician.
Ms. Ramirez earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and cell science at the University of Florida in Gainesville. After completing a one-year medical technology/clinical laboratory science program at Shand’s Hospital in Gainesville, she went on to earn an associate’s degree in physician assistant studies at Miami Dade College and a Master of Medical Science degree at Saint Francis University. Her medical training includes numerous physician assistant clinical clerkships covering such topics as internal medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine, general surgery and geriatrics.
Ms. Ramirez is licensed as a physician assistant by the State of Florida and certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She is also certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support by the American Heart Association.
Ms. Ramirez’s patient care philosophy is grounded in patience, compassion and active listening. She strives to ensure that her patients feel heard and supported, understand their condition and diagnosis, have their questions and concerns addressed and feel informed and empowered. She is committed to equipping patients and family members with the knowledge they need to make confident, well-informed decisions.
Ms. Ramirez is fluent in English and Spanish. When she is not treating patients, she spends time with her family. Her favorite pastimes are exercising and visiting national parks to be outside and enjoy nature.
