Keila M. Barreiro, ARNP, AGACNP-BC, is a certified adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. An advanced practice provider in the Institute’s Survivorship Program, she provides a range of services and support to help cancer survivors focus on healing, recovery, wellness and disease prevention.
Ms. Barreiro helps her patients manage post-treatment side effects, prevent future cancers through healthy lifestyle behaviors and monitor for cancer’s return. She collaborates with her patients to create a personalized Survivorship Plan that summarizes their treatment and provides education, resources and referrals to address their ongoing health needs and improve their quality of life after cancer.
During her 10-year nursing career, Ms. Barreiro has cared for patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions in such clinical units as surgical, cancer, orthopedic, infectious disease, observation and telemetry. She has received both the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, which recognizes individual nurses for their compassion and skill, and the DAISY Team Award, which honors nurse-led care teams for collaborative excellence in patient care.
Ms. Barreiro is licensed by the Florida Department of Health as an advanced practice registered nurse and certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner and medical-surgical nurse. She also holds certification by the Oncology Nursing Society and Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation in chemotherapy immunotherapy and the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support.
Ms. Barreiro earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Nova Southeastern University and a master’s degree in nursing at Barry University. She contributes to the medical community as a member of the American Nurses Association, Florida Nurses Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology and Oncology Nursing Society.
Ms. Barreiro is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care supported by evidence-based practices. She focuses on each patient's needs, preferences and values, encourages collaboration with her patients and their family members to foster trust and empowers her patients to take an active role in their care.
Ms. Barreiro is fluent in English and Spanish. When she is not treating patients or increasing her medical knowledge through research, she enjoys spending time with her family and four cats, going to the beach, listening to music and painting and drawing.
