Junney Maria Baeza Dager, MD

Junney Baeza, M.D., is a board-certified nonsurgical spine care physician at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. With training in physical medicine and rehabilitation and specialized expertise in spinal cord injury medicine, she helps people with neurological conditions maximize their function, independence and quality of life.

Dr. Baeza’s clinical interests include the use of functional devices that enhance traditional therapy and support the recovery of walking skills. She also has an interest in artificial intelligence and its potential to make educational information more accessible to caregivers of people living with neurological conditions.

Dr. Baeza earned her medical degree from the University of Cartagena School of Medicine in Colombia. She completed a transitional-year internship at St. Vincent of Paul University Hospital in Medellin, Colombia, followed by a general surgery internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. She then completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation, with a specialty in spinal cord injury, at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Committed to advancing rehabilitation medicine, Dr. Baeza’s research and scholarly work have explored spinal cord injury rehabilitation, functional outcomes, neuropathic pain and other topics affecting people with spinal cord injuries. More recently, she has explored the use of video gaming to support motor recovery and artificial intelligence to provide guidance and education for patients with spinal cord injuries and their caregivers. She is also a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Spinal Injury Association.

Dr. Baeza is passionate about caring for people with neurological impairments. She believes a multidisciplinary approach is essential to comprehensive, patient-centered care. She works closely with therapists, nurses, psychologists and other specialists to understand each patient’s needs and develop a plan designed to help the patient achieve greater function and independence.

Dr. Baeza is fluent in English and Spanish. Outside of work, she enjoys Pilates, cooking and outdoor activities with her family.
