Fernando Alvarez, DO

Fernando Alvarez Jr., D.O., is a board-certified family medicine physician at Baptist Health Primary Care. Dr. Alvarez provides comprehensive care for patients of all ages, with an emphasis on preventive care and long-term health and wellness. His full-spectrum family medicine training allows him to care for patients throughout all stages of life. He also performs a variety of office-based procedures, including Pap smears, contraceptive implant and intrauterine device insertions and removals, skin biopsies, cryotherapy, casting and splinting, foreign body removal, joint aspirations and trigger point injections.

Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Alvarez completed his family medicine residency at Foothills Family Medicine Residency at Gadsden Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama, where he served as chief resident. His training included outpatient and inpatient medicine, obstetrical and prenatal care, newborn and pediatric care, intensive care and emergency medicine. He also mentored medical students. Dr. Alvarez earned his medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his family medicine residency at Foothills Family Medicine Residency at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. He is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

Dr. Alvarez believes great healthcare starts with a simple conversation. He focuses on building lasting relationships with his patients by listening carefully, earning their trust and working together to make healthcare decisions that reflect their individual needs and values. He is passionate about preventive care and helping patients navigate health challenges with compassionate, personalized care.

When he is not treating patients, Dr. Alvarez enjoys spending time with his wife and children, fishing, hiking, flying and traveling. He also enjoys trying new foods and learning about different cultures.
