David Mattos, M.D., MBA, is a Harvard-trained, board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. With a remarkable academic background and extensive clinical experience, Dr. Mattos is at the forefront of innovative surgical techniques in both aesthetic and reconstructive procedures.
Dr. Mattos performs reconstructive plastic surgery to restore the function and appearance of body parts affected by cancer, helping patients reclaim their confidence and achieve a better quality of life. He is also an expert cosmetic breast surgeon and rhinoplasty surgeon, treating both reconstructive, functional and aesthetic concerns. In addition, he has experience in facelift, eyelid and abdominal surgery.
Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Mattos was a plastic and reconstructive surgeon in New York at New York Plastic Surgical Group, where he was also a clinical researcher and chair of resident research. He perfected many of his techniques at the esteemed Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York City. He was recognized as a Castle Connolly Rising Star and Top Doctor from 2022-2025 and a New York Super Doctor from 2023-2025.
After earning his undergraduate degree at Harvard College, Dr. Mattos earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School and a Master of Business Administration degree at Harvard Business School through a combined MD-MBA program. He then completed a six-year plastic surgery residency program at Harvard Medical School, being elected by his peers as chief resident representative and winning the resident teaching award. His training was completed at some of the nation’s most prestigious hospitals, including Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Mattos has published many peer-reviewed papers in national journals on the topics of breast surgery and rhinoplasty and presents his work nationally. He continues to be actively involved in cutting-edge research to provide the best possible care for his patients.
Dr. Mattos is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). He serves on several committees for these professional organizations and has been lead author on multiple ASPS guidelines.
Born in Cuba, Dr. Mattos is fluent in English and Spanish. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, exercising and watching tennis.
