(VIDEO: Michael Zaplin, M.D., a Baptist Health Medical Group hospitalist with West Kendall Baptist Hospital, leads a group getting a shaved head for a special cause)
More than a dozen employees of Baptist Health South Florida, along with their families and West Kendall community partners, shaved their heads during the Relay for Life event at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. The goal of the event was to raise money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers.
Helped by volunteers from Golden Touch Haircuts and Shaves, the participants took their turns getting trimmed while co-workers and family members cheered them on. Dr. Zaplin not only helped the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, but also Locks of Love, by donating his long pieces of hair that were cut off prior to the shaving. The organization provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
