The 6’10” Isner, whose powerful 157-mph serve earlier this month set a new ATP Tour record, kneeled at patients’ bedsides to engage in gentle conversations and leave them with smiles on their faces. As they looked up from their hospital beds to talk with the 30-year old tennis pro, “How tall are you?” quickly emerged as the most common question the young patients asked.
Isner also gave the children autographed Miami Open merchandise, including over-sized tennis balls, shirts and hats, and posed for pictures with families.
Isner is in town competing in the 2016 Miami Open Tennis Tournament. Known as one of the largest and most prestigious professional tennis events in the world, the Miami Open runs through April 3 at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne. Isner is the tournament’s 13th seed in men’s singles. He has earned 10 ATP World Tour titles in his nine-year tennis career.
