Plantation Complex Offers Urgent Care, Diagnostic Imaging and Surgery Center, All Under One Roof

From broken bones to spiking fevers, there are all sorts of reasons why people wind up seeking care at their local urgent care facility. But not all urgent care centers are the same, according to specialists at Baptist Health South Florida’s new wellness and medical complex, which opened recently in Plantation.
Having various medical specialties under one roof alongside urgent care, they say, enhances their ability to provide timely, comprehensive care. And, they add, it ensures a more convenient and seamless experience for patients.
The complex in Plantation, at 1228 South Pine Island Road just north of I-595, is home to the newest in Baptist Health’s network of urgent care centers across South Florida and the Florida Keys. According to Ladan Pourmasiha, M.D., a family medicine physician with Baptist Health and a director of the health system’s urgent care centers in Broward and Palm Beach counties, people come to Baptist Health Urgent Care with a wide variety of illnesses and injuries.
“I think it’s comforting for people who live in the area to know that our urgent care team is nearby and ready to provide immediate care for them any day of the week for conditions like fractures, sprains, lacerations, fevers, allergies and more,” Dr. Pourmasiha says. “We try to make it quick and convenient for patients to get the care they need with new offerings like our Rx Now on-site pharmacy so patients can leave with their medications in hand.” Plus, she adds, Baptist Health has an outpatient diagnostic imaging center and an ambulatory surgery center right there in the same complex, helping expedite treatment which, she says, leads to better outcomes.
State-of-the-art imaging center speeds diagnosis
According to Lawrence Elgarresta, M.D., medical director of imaging, Baptist Health’s full-service diagnostic center is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology – including CT, MRI, Ultrasound and PET-CT, as well as all Breast imaging and interventional procedures – to serve every specialty, from orthopedics and surgery to cardiac, oncology and more.
Baptist Health Diagnostic Imaging centers provide the highest quality equipment and highly subspecialized radiology interpretations from a nationally recognized radiology practice, says Dr. Elgarresta. “We’re here to support the needs of our colleagues at Miami Cancer Institute, Miami Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute, Miami Neuroscience institute and Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, but we’re also here for all those patients walking in with injuries or other primary health care needs.”
Dr. Elgarresta points to the advantages for patients of having all of the major specialties in the same complex. “From the patient’s perspective, it’s a real convenience to be able to have imaging performed on the same day and in the same place as your doctor appointments,” he says. “From a doctor’s perspective, they’re able to consult with other Baptist Health specialists in the same facility, which allows them to provide even better care to their patients.”
Should surgery be required, Baptist Health’s new surgery center in Plantation has eight large operating rooms equipped with all of the latest technology, including robotic surgery, says John P. Diaz, M.D., medical director for the center.
“Baptist Health has been a leader for healthcare in Miami-Dade and now we’ve extended that to Broward County,” says Dr. Diaz, who also serves as deputy chief of gynecologic oncology at Miami Cancer Institute. “Having all of our centers of excellence represented here in Plantation certainly enhances the quality of care now available to Broward residents, who no longer have to drive south to Miami to access Baptist Health’s leading physicians and life-saving treatments.”
Anyone who requires any form of general or specialized ambulatory surgery will benefit from the new surgery center in Plantation, Dr. Diaz says. “Whatever type of surgery you require – robotic, orthopedic, urologic, cancer, gynecologic, breast, ear-nose-throat, plastic – you’ll be able to have it done here.” Although the facility is designed primarily for same-day surgeries and less-than-23-hour stays, he adds that it can accommodate overnight stays, if necessary.
