More than one-third of American adults are considered obese. It’s not just about being overweight. Obesity is linked to the development of many chronic diseases. In some cases, bariatric surgery can be an effective tool for losing a large amount of weight. This major surgery has come a long way over the decades, but it is not the answer for everyone.
Host, Jonathan Fialkow, M.D. welcomed a bariatric surgeon and a mental health professional to talk about the physical and emotional factors to be considered when thinking about bariatric surgery.
Guests:
· Anthony Gonzalez, M.D., medical director of bariatric surgery at Baptist Health South Florida
· Carmen Barresi, L.M.H.C., psychotherapist with Baptist Health’s Community Health and Wellness.
