Miami Dolphins Open Training Camp with Donation to Baptist Health Youth Program

The Miami Dolphins Foundation pledged $1.5-million over the next 5 years to Baptist Health Foundation to support Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute’s Youth Athletic Outreach Program.

For over 30 years, Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute has worked with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to make sure athletes are cared for before, during and after athletic competition. Some of the services provided include:

  • Medical team (physician and athletic trainer) at every varsity high-school football game.
  • Pre-participation athletic screenings every year for over 6,000 high school athletes.
  • Continuing education to high school athletic trainers, coaches, athletes and parents to keep them up-to-date on medical advances in sports injuries.
  • Providing voluntary EKG screenings to all high school athletes

“We are grateful for the Miami Dolphins’ commitment to our partnership and to the communities in which we serve,” said Nelson Lazo, chief executive officer, Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute and Doctors Hospital. “For over 30 years, the Institute has worked with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to ensure that athletes are cared for. As Baptist Health grows, we hope to expand our program to impact more student athletes across South Florida,” Lazo added. “We are excited to expand our long-standing partnership with the Miami Dolphins.”

South Florida athletes are a constant on many rosters at the collegiate and professional level. The Miami Dolphins are committed to supporting youth sports and specifically, safety in youth football through the Junior Dolphins program.
