In response to the coronaviruspandemic, Baptist Health South Florida has created several “points of entry”for people who think they or a loved one may have been exposed to COVID-19, orwho just have questions or concerns about the virus. And all that’s required isa computer, tablet or phone.
Christina Gomez-Pina, AssistantVice President, Consumer Access, Baptist Health South Florida, says people areoverwhelmed with so much information about the virus every day – not all of itfrom reliable sources – and want accurate information from a source they cantrust.
“Coronavirus is top of mind foreveryone, and we want to make it as easy as possible for people to eitherconnect with the healthcare resources they need from Baptist Health or to getanswers to any questions they may have,” says Mrs. Gomez-Pina.
As a public service, Baptist Health has instituted a toll-free Coronavirus Hotline (1-833-MyBaptist or 1-833-692-2784) that is staffed 24/7 and available free for the duration of the crisis. Mrs. Gomez-Pina says the call center’s bilingual representatives are able to answer general questions regarding coronavirus prevention, symptoms and testing. They can also provide the latest updates on Baptist Health visitation policies, closings, or changes in hours of operation. While not to be used as a substitute for medical consultations, the call center representatives are backed up by clinical experts who can offer sound advice.
Visitors to Baptist Health’s website will also find a helpful chatbot, or virtual assistant, that lets them ask questions, navigate through information on all of the health system’s facilities and services, and even complete a quick Coronavirus Risk Assessment. If a visit with a doctor is recommended, a free virtual visit can be scheduled with a Baptist Health provider on the Baptist Health Care On Demand telehealth app.
“You’ll also find, right at the top of our Baptist Health home page, a link to a special Coronavirus page with important hospital information and instructions on what to do if you think you’ve been exposed to the coronavirus,” says Mrs. Gomez-Pina.
As a rule of thumb, she adds, if you have no symptomsbut have questions about COVID-19 or any other medical issue, you should startby visiting BaptistHealth.net or calling Baptist Health’s Coronavirus Hotline. If your symptoms are mild, use Baptist Health Care On Demand; if they’reserious or life-threatening, go to the ER or call 911.
