Last month, Baptist Health opened the doors to its new cancer care center in Key West, expanding access to advanced oncology services for residents of the Lower Florida Keys. The milestone was celebrated on February 13 with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a panel discussion highlighting the importance of bringing specialized cancer care closer to home.
The new center, part of Baptist Health Cancer Care, is located at 3426 N. Roosevelt Blvd. and provides comprehensive oncology services in a modern, patient-centered setting. The facility offers an infusion center for chemotherapy, advanced radiation therapy using a new linear accelerator, CT simulation for precise treatment planning and on-site medical and radiation oncology.
“We are incredibly excited to open this new cancer care center in Key West,” said Leonard Kalman, M.D., interim system chief executive of Baptist Health Cancer Care and interim executive medical director of Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. “This facility represents a major step forward in providing advanced cancer care closer to home, enabling residents of the Lower Keys to receive treatment without traveling far from their support systems.”
The 4,300-square-foot facility brings together a team of physicians and oncology specialists to provide coordinated care for patients. In addition to clinical services, patients will have access to on-site support resources including nurse navigators, registered dietitians, social workers and symptom management specialists, ensuring comprehensive care throughout their treatment journey.
During the opening celebration, Baptist Health leaders and community members reflected on the significance of expanding cancer services in the Keys.
“The opening of this new center marks an important milestone for both Baptist Health and the Keys community,” said Joe Natoli, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Baptist Health. “We are pleased to expand access to essential health services for both residents and visitors — care that will be delivered with quality and compassion by the experts they trust.”
The new facility offers a wide range of infusion services including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapies, as well as advanced radiation therapy technology designed to deliver precise treatment while minimizing impact on surrounding tissue.
“This building represents an important milestone for both Baptist Health and the Keys community,” said Jay Hershoff, chair of the Baptist Health Board of Trustees. “The area is growing at a rapid pace, and with that growth comes the need for additional health services. Baptist Health continues to be at the forefront of medical care, providing residents and visitors with the clinical support they need by the experts that they trust.”
The new Key West location reflects Baptist Health’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to care throughout the Florida Keys. Earlier this year, Baptist Health Fishermen’s Community Hospital opened the Walsh Family Medical Arts Building, increasing access to infusion services and primary care in the Middle Keys. Together, these efforts are helping ensure that residents across the Keys can receive high-quality cancer care close to home.
