An international field of 25,000 runners from 80 countries made their way to the start line of the 15th edition of the Miami Marathon and Half Marathon in front of the American Airlines Arena. The pre-dawn start sent participants racing through the cool and rainy streets of downtown Miami, Miami Beach, Coconut Grove and Brickell before winding back to the finish line in front of Bayfront Park on Biscayne Boulevard.
Thomas San Giovanni, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon with Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute and medical director of the race, was on hand to coordinate the operations of the Baptist Health South Florida medical tent. Volunteer doctors, nurses, athletic trainers and other medical professionals were on hand for the duration of the race to deal with any medical issues that arise. Some of the most common conditions treated are blisters, cramps and other musculoskeletal injuries. Baptist Health South Florida is the official medical provider for the race.

Baptist Health South Florida is also the sponsor of the Athletes with a Disability Division of the Miami Marathon.
