PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency at Baptist Hospital Preceptors

Dr. Gauthier obtained a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Northeastern University College of Pharmacy (Boston, MA) in 2008, then completed 2 years of post-graduate pharmacy residency training at Jackson Memorial Hospital (Miami, FL) to specialize in infectious diseases. From 2010 to 2015 he was an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy (Fort Lauderdale, FL) with a practice site at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He then spent ~5 years serving as an ID Clinical Pharmacist and Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Manager for the Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. He joined Baptist Health South Florida Clinical Pharmacy Enterprise in mid-2019 and is currently the Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Program Manager, where he coordinates system-wide updates on antimicrobial stewardship items and serves as the PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency Program Director. He is dual board certified in pharmacotherapy and infectious diseases. He is an active member of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP) and American College of Clinical Pharmacy ID PRN, serving on the social media committees for both organizations. He has published several book chapters, >40 peer-reviewed articles, >50 conference posters, hundreds of blog posts related to antimicrobial stewardship and authored a book entitled “Learn Antibiotics”. He has presented is scholarly work locally, nationally, and internationally. He is recognized as a pharmacist thought-leader in the area of social media as a recipient of the SIDP Gita Patel Best Practice Award in 2019.

Dr. Margulis Landayan received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Northeastern University in 2017. Following graduation, she completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency at Lakeland Regional Health, followed by a PGY2 Infectious Diseases pharmacy residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Margulis Landayan joined South Miami Hospital in 2019, where she currently serves as the Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Pharmacy Specialist and PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director, in addition to being the Residency Program Coordinator for the PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency at Baptist Health South Florida – Clinical Pharmacy Enterprise. She serves as the lead for the South Miami Hospital Residency Advisory Committee and co-lead of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Committee. As a current clinical preceptor for Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy and Pharmacy and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy, she precepts pharmacy students in addition to PGY1 and PGY2 residents. Her current practice includes evaluating and intervening on antimicrobial utilization, rounding with a multidisciplinary Infectious Diseases team, and developing antimicrobial stewardship initiatives at a local and system-wide level. Her practice interests include antimicrobial resistance, antibiotic allergies, and resident development. She enjoys spending time with her family (including two dogs) and friends, travelling, and trying new restaurants.

Dr. Cua received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Chicago in 2010 and subsequently earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF) in 2018. After pharmacy school, he completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Michigan Medicine where he served as a clinical instructor and obtained a teaching certificate from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. He then went on to complete a PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency at UW Health, where he was appointed as a clinical instructor with the University of Wisconsin – Madison School of Pharmacy. Dr. Cua joined Baptist Hospital of Miami (BHM) in 2020, where he currently serves as an Antimicrobial Stewardship (ASP) Specialist. At BHM, he co-leads the ASP Collaborative Committee and coordinates ASP initiatives with system-wide committees, physician groups, microbiology lab, and infection control and prevention. As a current clinical instructor for the University of Florida College of Pharmacy and Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy, he precepts pharmacy students in addition to PGY1 and PGY2 residents at Baptist Health South Florida. His clinical research interests include antimicrobial stewardship in the management of pneumonia, antifungal therapeutic drug monitoring, and HIV.

Dr. Amaya is the Infectious Diseases (ID) Pharmacy Specialist in the oncology patient population with a focus in malignant hematology, blood & marrow transplantation (BMT), and cellular therapy at the Miami Cancer Institute (MCI) of Baptist Hospital of Miami (BHM). He grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of New Mexico. He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2018. After graduation, he completed his PGY1 pharmacy training at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska and then his PGY2 pharmacy residency training at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. His interests include viral infection reactivation, invasive fungal infections, febrile neutropenia, antibiotic allergies, HIV, healthcare informatics, medication safety, and personal development. He serves as the co-chair of the MCI Antimicrobial Stewardship (ASP) Collaborative where he works with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement institutional antimicrobial use guidelines, protocols, and policies. He also serves as a preceptor for pharmacy interns and residents for a rotation in Immunocompromised Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Frederick earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. Following graduation, he completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice residency followed by a PGY-2 Infectious Diseases residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. After completing residency training, he served as an Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacist at Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC. From 2016 to 2022, Dr. Frederick was the Infectious Diseases Clinical Coordinator for Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, FL. Dr. Frederick joined Baptist Health South Florida in 2022 as the Clinical Pharmacy Ambulatory Infectious Diseases Coordinator. His role focuses primarily on promoting antimicrobial stewardship in the ambulatory care setting and across the spectrum of care. He is dual board certified in pharmacotherapy (BCPS) and infectious diseases (BCIDP) and is a member of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP), Making a Difference in Infectious Diseases (MAD-ID), and the Florida Society of Health Systems Pharmacists (FSHP). Dr. Frederick serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and PGY-2 pharmacy residents.

Dr. Fuerte is the infectious diseases clinical specialist and Co-Director of the antimicrobial stewardship program at Homestead Hospital. He obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in chemistry from Florida International University in 2007 and practiced as a Quality Control Chemist II at Teva Pharmaceuticals prior to obtaining his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Union University in 2013. Upon culmination of his doctorate degree, he completed a Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) residency at South Miami Hospital. Dr. Fuerte is board certified in infectious diseases and serves as a resource for providers to optimize antimicrobials at Homestead Hospital. He currently precepts pharmacy students, as well as the infectious disease and HIV rotations for the PGY1 pharmacy residency program.

Dr. Anthony Wasielewski completed pharmacy prerequisites from Kent State University in 2016 and went on to receive his Doctor of Pharmacy from Northeast Ohio Medical University in 2020. Following graduation, he completed a Post-Graduate Year-1 Pharmacy Practice residency at MetroHealth System (Cleveland, OH), followed by a Post-Graduate Year-2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy residency at the University of Florida Health Jacksonville (Jacksonville, FL). Dr. Wasielewski is a board certified infectious diseases pharmacist (BCIDP) at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, with responsibilities in the areas of infectious diseases, and serves as the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Pharmacist Champion for the hospital. In his spare time, he enjoys baking new recipes, going to the beach, and golfing. He also enjoys traveling to new areas and trying new restaurants.

Dr. Menendez Alvarado earned her Bachelor of Science degrees in Biochemistry and Spanish Literature from the University of Miami in 2017. She then received her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Florida in 2021. Following graduation, she completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency at Baptist Hospital of Miami, followed by a PGY2 Infectious Diseases pharmacy residency at Baptist Health. During this time, she became Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy. Dr. Menendez Alvarado is the Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at West Kendall Baptist Hospital, where she also serves as the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) Pharmacist Champion and co-chair of the ASP Committee. Outside of work, she enjoys reading and going on adventures with her Standard Poodle, Tini.
