PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at West Kendall Baptist Hospital

The Pharmacy Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Residency at West Kendall Baptist Hospital is structured to provide a strong foundation for pharmacy practice in a community teaching hospital environment.

The purpose of the West Kendall Baptist Hospital Pharmacy Residency program is to develop a well-rounded pharmacist competent in providing clinical services as well as drug distribution who can practice confidently in a community hospital or continue to a PGY2 for specialized training.

This PGY1 Pharmacy residency at West Kendall Baptist Hospital is a 52-week program designed to foster professional growth and independence while providing mentorship and supervision. The program aims to enhance residents’ competencies in the provision of clinical services in multiple settings, managing medication-use systems, and optimizing drug therapy. An array of electives and certificate programs are available to tailor the experience for each resident. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager serves as the Residency Program Director. Residency preceptors and mentors are comprised of Clinical Pharmacists and Specialists, Managers, and the Director of Pharmacy.

West Kendall Baptist Hospital opened to the public April 2011 as Miami-Dade County’s first brand-new hospital in more than 35 years. The hospital features 203 private rooms and is a Gold LEED-certified facility featuring energy-efficient initiatives and recycled materials throughout. It supports a vision of West Kendall as a convenient central hub where area residents can live, work and play. Through its “Healthy West Kendall” initiative, the hospital encourages residents to achieve the goal of becoming the “Healthiest Community in Florida”. West Kendall Baptist Hospital offers adult medical and surgical services, surgical and endoscopy services, and maternity services.

Eligibility Requirements and Application Schedule

Our program attracts, educates, and retains exceptional healthcare talent to serve the South Florida community. Program participants will be trained in the Baptist Health Way with a focus on quality, inclusion, compassion, and collaboration.

Program Eligibility Prerequisites

Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Must obtain a Florida pharmacist’s license
