Jamelah Morton, Ph.D., APRN, is a certified nurse practitioner at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. She cares for patients with acute neurological and neurosurgical conditions and is certified in acute care, critical care, neuroscience and strokes.
Before transitioning to her current role as a nurse practitioner for Miami Neuroscience Institute, Jamelah worked at Baptist Health as a neuroscience bedside nurse and an ICU nurse, specializing in cardiac and neurological conditions.
Prior to joining Baptist Health, she earned her bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and Ph.D. in nursing from Barry University.
Dedicated to enhancing the education of nurses at all levels, Jamelah is currently an adjunct faculty member at Barry University. She previously worked as an assistant professor and faculty member for Barry University and served on several dissertation committees for DNP and Ph.D. students.
Experienced in treating a range of neurological conditions, Jamelah collaborates with her team to provide the best possible care for her patients.
In addition to her clinical work, she assists with clinical trials and conducts research on multicultural health. Jamelah has presented her studies on the cultural influences of Afro-Caribbean health nationally and internationally.
When she is not working, she enjoys exercising, participating in spartan races and spending time with family and friends.
Alexandra Turcios, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., is a certified nurse practitioner and the director of Advanced Practice Providers and Registered Nurses for Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. She cares for patients with acute and chronic neurological conditions.
Prior to joining Baptist Health, Alexandra worked at Memorial Hermann Medical Center and several other hospitals in Houston, specializing in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. After transitioning into a leadership role, she now leads a team of advanced practice providers and registered nurses at Miami Neuroscience Institute.
With over 25 years of experience in healthcare, Alexandra holds certifications as an acute care nurse practitioner and a registered nurse first assistant.
Caryn Baldwin, M.S.N., is a certified nurse practitioner at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, specializing in pain management.
Prior to joining Baptist Health, Caryn worked as an advanced practice registered nurse in pain management. Caryn earned her nursing degree from Florida State University before completing her master’s degree in nursing at Barry University.
She is a member of the American Academy for Nurse Practitioners and serves on numerous committees at Baptist Health.
As an experienced pain management nurse, Caryn strives to understand and treat each patients’ individualized needs through evidence-based, holistic care.
When she is not at work, Caryn enjoys being a chauffeur for her two children, a gourmet chef for her husband and a professional ball-thrower for her yellow Labrador.
Diego Torres-Russotto, M.D., is the chair of neurology and the Distinguished Endowed Chair in Neurology at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. He is fluent in English, Spanish and Italian.
Dr. Torres-Russotto specializes in neurology and movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, tremors, spasticity, gait disturbance, tics and other neurological illnesses. He also performs botulinum toxin (botox) injections, deep brain stimulation and DUOPA pump administration.
Prior to joining Miami Neuroscience Institute in 2023, Dr. Torres- Russotto served as professor and vice-chair for education and chief of movement disorders at the Department of Neurological Sciences at University of Nebraska Medical Center.
He has published more than 50 scientific papers and established one of the largest international studies of orthostatic tremor. He is a member of multiple national and international research consortia: the Huntington Study Group, the Parkinson Study Group, the Tremor Research Group and Tremor Study Group. His research interests include tremor, orthostatic tremor, evidence-based physical examination, chemodenervation, Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, and provider burnout, wellness and resilience.
He has received numerous recognitions as an educator, such as the Distinguished Mentor Award and a campus-wide Outstanding Teacher Award from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
When he is not researching, educating or treating patients, Dr. Torres- Russotto enjoys spending time with family, reading and exploring two of his passions — food and music.
