Healthcare Provider (HCP) basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

Baptist Health has adopted the HeartCode Complete BLS program for certification renewal. The HeartCode Complete BLS renewal includes components:

Online Learning Module (approximately 3 hours): Completed on any internet-accessible device.
Hands-On Skills Session (15-40 minutes depending on provider skills): Completed using a machine located at our Baptist Health Education Center in Baptist Hospital campus.

This course is accredited by the American Heart Association, provides the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for healthcare providers to perform CPR, to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and bag mask, and relieve choking in the adult and pediatric victim.

After completing this course, participants will be able to perform each of the following skills:

Recall the basic steps of CPR for adults, children, and infants.
Show the basic steps of CPR for adults, children, and infants.
Give breaths with a bag mask.
Perform rescue breathing.
Explain the importance of early defibrillation.
List the steps common to the operation of all AEDs.
Demonstrate the proper placement of the AED electrode pads.
Show how to relieve choking in the responsive and unresponsive victim.

Eligibility Requirements and Application Schedule

Our program attracts, educates, and retains exceptional healthcare talent to serve the South Florida community. Program participants will be trained in the Baptist Health Way with a focus on quality, inclusion, compassion, and collaboration.

Eligibility Prerequisites

Participants must be aged 16 or older as of the start of the program.
The AHA developed the BLS Course for current healthcare providers and those in their collegiate programs (e.g. medical, nursing, emergency medical, or allied health personnel) whose daily occupation or volunteer activities demand proficiency in the knowledge and skills of Basic Life Support (BLS).
This course is designed for those who need to renew their current certification and are expected to respond and participate in a possible adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest.

Application Requirements

Possess an American Heart Association BLS provider card.

Acceptance and admission to the program is contingent on submission of all requested materials and meeting all eligibility requirements as determined by the program.
