Baptist Health has adopted the HeartCode® ACLS Online program for certification renewal. You must purchase and complete the HeartCode® ACLS Online directly from the American Heart Association to participate in the renewal course using HeartCode® ACLS . This program consists of one-day (4 hour) skill session, accredited by the American Heart Association. This session will enhance your skills in treating arrest and peri-arrest patients through active participation in a series of simulated cardiopulmonary cases.

The renewal courses are intended for experienced healthcare providers refreshing their knowledge and certification. This course does not have a re-testing option. This course intended for those with a working knowledge of rhythm recognition, clinical & pharmacological management.

After completing this course, participants will be able to perform each of the following skills:

  1. Recognize and initiate early management of peri-arrest conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in providing BLS care in adults, including prioritizing chest compressions and integrating automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.
  3. Manage cardiac arrest until return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), termination of resuscitation, or transfer of care.
  4. Identify and treat ischemic chest pain and expedite the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes.
  5. Recognize other life-threatening clinical situations, such as stroke, and provide effective initial care and transfer to reduce disability and death.
  6. Demonstrate effective communication as a member or leader of a resuscitation team and recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance.

Eligibility Requirements and Application Schedule

Our program attracts, educates, and retains exceptional healthcare talent to serve the South Florida community. Program participants will be trained in the Baptist Health Way with a focus on quality, inclusion, compassion, and collaboration.

Eligibility Prerequisites

  • The AHA limits enrollment to ACLS to healthcare professionals that actively direct or participate in the resuscitation of patients.
  • The American Heart Association developed the ACLS Course for currently active healthcare providers (e.g., medical, nursing, emergency medical, or allied health personnel) whose daily occupation require proficiency in the knowledge and skills of ACLS.
  • Must be an active healthcare provider whose training and scope of practice requires a knowledge base that includes the foundations of ACLS knowledge and skills.
  • Participants must be proficient on:
    • Electrocardiogram rhythm interpretation for ACLS common rhythms
    • Knowledge of basic airway management
    • Pharmacological knowledge of common ACLS used medications
    • Practical application of ACLS algorithms and medications
    • Effective high-performance team skills
    • BLS Skills

Application Requirements

  • Possess a current American Heart Association ACLS provider card.
  • Complete the HeartCode® ACLS Online directly from the American Heart Association prior to the live session.
Acceptance and admission to the program is contingent on submission of all requested materials and meeting all eligibility requirements as determined by the program.
