Why Winning at Losing?

Over its 15-year history, South Miami Hospital’s Weight-loss Surgery program has given thousands of obese people happier, healthier lives by helping them lose weight effectively through weight-loss, or bariatric, surgery.

Those former patients continue to come back to the hospital and provide support for others who are battling obesity.  They discuss, at monthly support group meetings, how their emotional and physical well-being improved after surgery, how their careers changed and how their bonds with their families got stronger.

These life-changing testimonials have inspired countless other people living with obesity to take the first steps toward losing weight.

Winning at Losing will recount the experiences of Helen Gonzalez who underwent gastric bypass surgery in July 2010.  While her stories will provide inspiration, support and acknowledgement of the emotional decisions involved with weight-loss surgery, South Miami Hospital bariatric surgeons, nurses, dietitians, physical therapists and psychologists also will provide valuable information about the surgery.

We invite readers to ask questions and post their own thoughts and comments on this blog, so that it will serve as an interactive forum for to exchange ideas, tips, encouragement and knowledge.
