Baptist Health makes Top 100 List for the 17th time
Baptist Health has once again been named among the Working Mother 100 Best Companies for its unwavering dedication to family-friendly benefits. It is the only South Florida company on the magazine’s 100 Best Companies list for 2009. This is Baptist Health’s 17th year on the list.
Baptist Health was also one of six organizations to make the Best in Class for Flexibility list, for leading the way in pioneering programs that support families, including flextime and telecommuting, job-sharing, wellness programs and financial programs such as tuition reimbursement and retirement planning.
“Baptist Health provides leadership where and when we need it most, furnishing a framework of support for working families during good times and bad,” said Carol Evans, CEO, Working Mother Media. “If all companies adopted these best practices, more families could weather the economic storm.”
“By offering benefits like paid maternity leave, flexible work arrangements and wellness programs, as well as programs that enhance financial well-being, Baptist Health is helping to reduce stress in the busy lives of working moms,” added Suzanne Riss, Editor in Chief, Working Mother magazine.
“Our number one priority is always our employees. We listen to them and respond with meaningful benefits and programs that enhance their growth opportunities and improve the work-life balance for them and their families,” said Brian E. Keeley, President and CEO of Baptist Health, the region’s largest not-for-profit healthcare organization.
This year, Baptist Health employed creative programs that help its more than 13,000 employees – 75 percent of whom are women – in all areas of their lives. New programs and enhanced services include LifeWorks, an employee assistance benefit that offers employees and their loved ones free, confidential assistance with work and family issues and provides resources for everyday needs; increased educational opportunities for employees, with 24/7 access to online courses through Baptist Health University; and expanded onsite child care program with the addition of weekend care at Baptist Hospital’s Early Learning Center. These are in addition to other services already in place, such as interest-free loans through the Sunshine Fund (funded by employee donations with 2-1 match from Baptist Health) for economic hardships; one week of paid parental leave for birth or adoption of a child; $10,000 in adoption assistance; and extensive employee wellness programs.
Methodology:
Companies were selected for the 2009 Working Mother 100 Best Companies based on an extensive application with more than 500 questions on workforce, compensation, child care, flexibility programs, leave policies and more. It also surveys the usage, availability and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them. Seven areas were measured and scored: workforce profile, benefits, women’s issues and advancement, child care, flexible work, parental leave and company culture. For this year’s 100 Best, particular weight was given to benefits, flexibility and parental leave.
