Saks Fifth Avenue Dadeland 'Key to the Cure' Event to Benefit Baptist Health Breast Center

09-22-2009

In an effort to raise money and awareness for women’s cancers, Saks Fifth Avenue Dadeland will host the 2009 Key to the Cure charity shopping weekend from Thursday, Oct. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 18.

A percentage of the weekend’s sales will benefit the new Baptist Health Breast Center, a centralized resource for patients with a suspected or confirmed breast cancer diagnosis that features the most advanced digital imaging technology, top-quality diagnostics and expert surgical care.

Nationwide, Saks stores, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH stores and saks.com will donate 2 percent of sales up to $250,000 from the shopping weekend to local and national women’s cancer organizations and research centers. Additionally, Saks will make a donation of $500,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.

“We’re so pleased that Saks Dadeland selected the Baptist Health Breast Center as the beneficiary for the highly successful Key to the Cure shopping weekend,” said Tom Larsen, director of the Breast Center. “It’s a great venue to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer, as well as educating people about the expert care they can receive locally at our center.”
Saks also will offer a limited-edition Key to the Cure T-shirt designed by Michael Kors.   The T-shirts are available Oct. 1 and retail for $40 in Saks stores, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH stores and on saks.com. More than 80 percent of the proceeds from each shirt sold will be donated to local charity partners.

At the new Baptist Health Breast Center, located on the South Miami Hospital campus, Baptist Health’s goal is to simplify—and expedite—access to exceptional care for the thousands of women and their families facing the possibility of a life-changing diagnosis. The Breast Center offers the most advanced digital imaging technology, specialized radiologists whose sole focus is breast imaging, and a team of premier breast cancer surgeons—Drs. Robert DerHagopian and Gladys Giron—under one roof. A team of Care Coaches also is available to assist patients and families with various support functions.
